The San Andres population is a snapshot of diversity, culture, joy and hospitality. With rapt eyes and all the senses infused with magic, any tourist will testify to the beauty of the people of the islands.
The Islanders embody the cultural riches of the island. The native islander carries the weight of history on his shoulders and these things run through his veins. The native islander is a direct descendent of the slaves who inhabited the islands for the first time, making it their home for the rest of their, and their descendants’ lives. San Andres culture maintains a tight relationship with English and African customs – a legacy of its former inhabitants: colonizers and slaves. Meanwhile, the lifestyle of the Rastafarian opens the way for a particular stamp of joy. Finally, there’s a strong Hatian and Jamaican influence that you can feel as soon as you step foot on the islands.
This incredible mosaic of roots finds its origins in different moments of history, not to mention that many of the continental Colombians that cohabitate with the native islanders have lived more than ten years on the island and have married islanders. They are called Continentals and are people from the Colombian Caribbean and Antioquia.
