The Archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina (or San Andres and Providencia) is located about 482 miles north west of Colombia and 140 miles west of the Nicaraguan coast.
Providencia is about 90 km north of San Andres and is the second-largest island in the Archipelago. It’s of volcanic origin, much older than San Andres, and much hillier.
Santa Catalina is separated from Providencia (Santa Isabel, Providencia’s village at its northern tip) by a Canal Aury that can be reached via a pedestrian bridge.
There are two large island groups and eight outlying banks and reefs. The largest island of the archipelago is San Andres, followed by Providencia. The eight atolls of the islands are Southwest Cays, Courtown Cays, Alice Shoal, Bajo Nuevo Bank, Serranilla Bank, Quita Sueno Bank, Serrana Bank, and Roncador Bank.
San Andres is the capital of San Andres and Providencia.
It has a population of 80,000 people
