Crab Cay – Providencia Island

What is that peculiar formation we see from the bay? A turtle’s shell? Perhaps a crab? A volcanic rock emerging from the deep blue sea? A spec of celestial dust lost in the infinite ocean? Our presumptions may be many – both poetic and mundane.

In any case, give license to your fantasy world and let your eyes corroborate reality. Crab Bay is a jewel of Providencia, revealing itself to travelers who have an eye for true works of art in the immensity of the sea.

You don’t need much money or time to get to this paradise. From the docks of Maraciabo Bay, join other travelers in a speed boat to take you to Crab Cay. It’s worth noting that by PNN Macbean Lagoon decree, all visitors must pay a fee. The cost varies depending on whether you’re Colombian or foreigner. It’s between 5 and 10 dollars to get to paradise. (A lot less expensive that you imagined!)

As son as you step on its powdery sands, you’ll want to immerge yourself in the sea that you’ve spent so much time pondering. No rush, as this amazing spot, only two hectares in area, is worth discovering a grain of sand at a time. Climb to the hill, to the highest point of the Cay where, from the top, you can enjoy one of the most precious, pristine views in all of the Caribbean.

We aren’t exaggerating when we say that from this small knoll, you’ll have a 360-degree view of the Caribbean. Providencia and Santa Catalina can be seen close together, floating on a deep blue sea. The third largest coral reef in the world wraps the entire marine environment, as if it were a colorful belt incrusted with precious gems. And, the sea is the sea that caresses the borders of Crab Cay. There are no words to describe such beauty: the scale of colors dotted with patches of coral make it impossible to describe.

After contemplating this phenomenal view, it’s time to explore and enjoy the myriad of activities in Crab Cay. Crab empanadas will rev your engines. Don’t fill up too much as you won’t want to miss out on the out-of-this-world snorkeling. (And, please, don’t drink alcohol before going into the water.) Here, you’ll be able to explore the natural pools that form near the coral reef, where there’s an explosion of colorful, tranquil, marine life: barracudas, clown fish, surgeon fish, parrot fish, red snapper and much much more for you to discover.

Unfortunately, time flies when things are too wonderful. It’ll be time to depart this place of insurmountable beauty. Nevertheless, in the air will be a promise to return soon. So much tranquility and beauty are addictive.
